Anti-Federalist vs. Mitch McConnell

Senate Minority Leader, Kentucky

Mitch McConnell has been in the Senate since 1985. He is the most effective legislative tactician in modern American politics — and that effectiveness has been deployed entirely in the service of corporate power, judicial control, and institutional self-preservation. He does not serve Kentucky. He serves the Republican apparatus and its donor class.

The Record

01

Judicial Power

Mitch McConnell's Record

Blocked Merrick Garland for 293 days. Rammed through Amy Coney Barrett in 30 days. Used the judicial branch as a political weapon to achieve policy goals that could not pass legislatively.

Anti-Federalist Position

Judicial appointments should reflect community values, not party strategy. Federal judges should serve term limits. No single politician should be able to weaponize the entire judiciary.

McConnell's judicial strategy fundamentally corrupted the Supreme Court's legitimacy. By converting the judiciary into a legislative shortcut, he undermined the constitutional separation of powers.

02

Corporate Donors

Mitch McConnell's Record

Raised over $300 million from corporate PACs throughout his career. Consistently voted to protect pharmaceutical, insurance, and fossil fuel interests. Championed Citizens United.

Anti-Federalist Position

Sever all corporate-state financial entanglements. McConnell is the living embodiment of why money in politics destroys democracy.

McConnell has been the single most effective defender of unlimited corporate money in politics. He personally sued the FEC to expand campaign finance loopholes.

03

Obstruction as Strategy

Mitch McConnell's Record

Filibustered more legislation than any leader in history. Made the Senate dysfunctional by design. Obstructed Democratic presidents while rubberstamping Republican ones.

Anti-Federalist Position

The Senate should function as a deliberative body, not a bottleneck controlled by one person. We support structural reform that prevents any single leader from vetoing the legislative process.

McConnell said his top priority in 2010 was making Obama a one-term president — not serving the people of Kentucky. He is the embodiment of party over country.

04

Kentucky

Mitch McConnell's Record

Kentucky ranks 45th in median income, 44th in health outcomes, 47th in education. After 40 years of McConnell's representation, the state is poorer, sicker, and less educated.

Anti-Federalist Position

Elected officials should be judged by the outcomes they produce for their communities. By any measure, McConnell has failed Kentucky while enriching himself and his donors.

McConnell's net worth increased from under $1 million when he entered the Senate to over $35 million. Kentucky's poverty rate remained among the highest in the nation throughout.

The Verdict

Mitch McConnell is not a conservative. He is a corporate lobbyist who happens to have a Senate seat. He has used four decades of power to serve donors, weaponize the judiciary, and obstruct democratic governance. He is everything the Anti-Federalists warned about.
