Greg Abbott's Record

Championed the deregulated Texas power grid. When it failed catastrophically in 2021, killing 246 people and causing $195 billion in damage, blamed renewable energy and federal regulators.

Anti-Federalist Position

Community-owned energy cooperatives with local oversight. Deregulation without accountability is corporate welfare. The Texas grid failure is the definitive case study.

The Texas grid failed because generators were not required to winterize — a regulation Abbott's government opposed. Electricity prices spiked to $9,000 per megawatt-hour. People froze to death. The free market did not save them.

Local Preemption

Greg Abbott's Record

Signed laws preventing cities from setting their own minimum wages, banning plastic bags, mandating water breaks for construction workers, or implementing local COVID policies.

Anti-Federalist Position

Cities and counties are sovereign. Austin should be able to set a higher minimum wage if its residents vote for one. No governor should override local democracy.

Abbott claims to believe in limited government while actively preventing local governments from governing. He opposes federal overreach but practices state overreach against his own cities.

Spent billions of Texas taxpayer money on Operation Lone Star. Bussed migrants to Democratic cities as political theater. Built floating border barriers. None of it reduced illegal immigration.

Immigration is a local issue. Border communities should have primary authority. Spending billions on political theater while Texas schools are underfunded is a failure of governance.

Operation Lone Star has cost Texas taxpayers over $10 billion. Illegal border crossings have not meaningfully decreased. The money could have funded universal pre-K for every child in Texas.

Greg Abbott's Record

Signed the most restrictive abortion law in modern American history. Banned gender-affirming care for minors. Classified supportive parents as "child abusers." Used state power to impose social conservatism.

Anti-Federalist Position

Communities decide their own social policies. Houston and Lubbock have different values and different needs. No governor should impose one community's values on another.

Abbott's social policies are popular in rural Texas and deeply unpopular in urban Texas. He governs as if only his supporters exist.
