Anti-Federalist vs. Gavin Newsom

Governor of California

Gavin Newsom represents the progressive establishment at its most polished and its most hollow. He governs the fifth-largest economy in the world with the rhetoric of social justice while presiding over the worst homelessness crisis in American history, a mass exodus of residents, and regulatory capture by the very industries he claims to regulate.

The Record

01

Housing Crisis

Gavin Newsom's Record

Overrode local zoning decisions with state mandates. Signed legislation forcing cities to accept high-density development regardless of community input. Housing remains unaffordable.

Anti-Federalist Position

Municipalities decide their own development. Local communities have the right to determine their own zoning, density, and growth patterns.

California built fewer homes per capita than almost any state despite decades of Democratic governance. Newsom's solution was to override local communities rather than address the regulatory burden his own state created.

02

Homelessness

Gavin Newsom's Record

Spent billions on homelessness programs. Homelessness increased. Created state bureaucracies that absorbed funding without delivering results.

Anti-Federalist Position

Community-based solutions. Local organizations know their homeless populations. Federal and state bureaucracies create administrative overhead that consumes resources meant for people in need.

California spent over $24 billion on homelessness between 2019-2024. Homelessness increased 40% during the same period. The money went to consultants, administrators, and contractors — not to people on the streets.

03

Energy Policy

Gavin Newsom's Record

Mandated all-electric vehicles by 2035. Banned natural gas in new construction. Then asked residents not to charge EVs during heat waves because the grid couldn't handle it.

Anti-Federalist Position

Community-owned energy cooperatives. Local communities choose their own energy mix based on local conditions. No state mandates that ignore infrastructure reality.

Newsom banned gas cars while California's grid regularly fails during heat waves and fires. He mandated electric buildings while electricity costs 80% more than the national average. Policy without infrastructure is theater.

04

AI & Tech Regulation

Gavin Newsom's Record

Vetoed SB 1047 — the most significant AI safety bill in American history — after heavy lobbying from Silicon Valley. Claims to support AI regulation while doing the opposite.

Anti-Federalist Position

Comprehensive algorithmic accountability laws. Citizens have the right to audit any AI system that affects them. No corporate lobbying should override public safety.

Newsom vetoed AI safety legislation that had broad bipartisan support because Google, Meta, and OpenAI lobbied against it. He literally chose corporate donors over public safety.

05

Wealth Inequality

Gavin Newsom's Record

Presides over the most unequal state in America. The top 1% of Californians hold more wealth than the bottom 50%. Progressive taxation has not reduced inequality.

Anti-Federalist Position

Community banking. Local currencies. Worker-owned cooperatives. Economic sovereignty starts at the municipal level. State-level redistribution creates dependency without building wealth.

California has the highest poverty rate in America when adjusted for cost of living. Progressive governance produced a state where tech billionaires and homeless encampments share the same streets.

The Verdict

Newsom governs a state where you can't afford a house, the power goes out, the forests burn, and the streets are lined with tents — but the branding is immaculate. He is the progressive establishment's final form: all rhetoric, no results.
