Anti-Federalist vs. Libertarian Party

The Libertarian Party correctly identifies government overreach as the core problem in American politics. Where they fall short is in their refusal to acknowledge that corporate power can be just as tyrannical as government power. Their "free market" absolutism ignores the reality that unregulated corporations create their own forms of coercion, surveillance, and monopolistic control.

Issue-by-Issue Breakdown

01

Federal Power

Libertarian Position

Minimize all government at every level. Oppose most taxation and regulation.

Anti-Federalist Position

Decentralize federal power to the county and municipal level — but acknowledge that local government is still necessary to protect individual rights, maintain infrastructure, and prevent corporate abuse.

Libertarians want to shrink government to nothing. We want to move government closer to the people. These are fundamentally different goals. A community without any governance is not free — it is vulnerable.

02

Corporate Power

Libertarian Position

The free market will self-correct. Deregulate everything. Corporations will behave because consumers will punish bad actors.

Anti-Federalist Position

Break up monopolies. Enforce antitrust. Corporations are legal fictions created by the state — they can be regulated by the state. Individual liberty requires protection from ALL concentrations of power.

The free market did not prevent Standard Oil, did not prevent Facebook from harvesting billions of people's data, and did not prevent pharmaceutical companies from creating an opioid epidemic. Markets require rules to remain free.

03

Data Sovereignty

Libertarian Position

Property rights approach — if you own your data, the market will sort it out.

Anti-Federalist Position

Mandatory data sovereignty laws. Algorithmic transparency requirements. The market has had 20 years to self-regulate on data privacy and has failed catastrophically.

Google, Meta, and Amazon collect more data on American citizens than any government in history. The Libertarian "property rights" approach has produced zero meaningful privacy protections in practice.

04

Healthcare

Libertarian Position

Fully deregulate healthcare. Allow interstate insurance competition. Eliminate the FDA.

Anti-Federalist Position

Community health cooperatives with local oversight. Some regulation is necessary to prevent fraud, ensure drug safety, and protect consumers from predatory practices.

Before the FDA, companies sold cocaine as cough medicine and radium as a health tonic. Some regulation exists because people died without it.

05

Infrastructure

Libertarian Position

Privatize roads, bridges, utilities, and internet infrastructure.

Anti-Federalist Position

Community-owned infrastructure. Broadband as a public utility. Roads and bridges maintained by the communities that use them.

Private toll roads in Texas charge $20 for a 30-minute commute. Private utilities in Texas failed catastrophically during the 2021 freeze, killing 246 people. Privatization without accountability is not freedom.

06

Electoral Viability

Libertarian Position

Have never won a federal election. Frequently run candidates that split the anti-establishment vote. Internal party dysfunction prevents coalition building.

Anti-Federalist Position

Building from the ground up — county commissions, city councils, school boards. We win local races first, then scale. The Libertarian Party skips straight to the presidency and loses every time.

The Libertarian Party has existed for 50+ years and holds zero federal seats. Their strategy of running presidential candidates every four years is a vanity project, not a political movement.

The Verdict

The Libertarian Party is our closest ideological neighbor — and that makes their failures more frustrating. They correctly identify the disease but prescribe a cure that ignores half the symptoms. Corporate tyranny is still tyranny. The Anti-Federalist Party fights ALL concentrations of power, not just the governmental ones.
